Note: Although these screen savers will run on systems capable of displaying only 256 color (Super VGA or SVGA), the quality of display is enhanced on systems capable of supporting 16-bit ("thousands of colors") or 24-bit ("millions of colors"). The quality of display also depends on the resolution at which your system is set; the higher the resolution, e.g. 1024 x 768 as opposed to 640 x 480, the higher quality of display. A good display resolution is 800 x 600 with 16-bit color. ********************************************************************** For additional copies please contact: MAINE SCENE, INC. However, you must be aware that this program is sold "as is", without any warranty of any kind. ********************************************************************** Troubleshooting Many users of this product are comfortable in diagnosing and solving common problems on their own. We have included some helpful hints to make this easier. You can also send your quiries to: screen@mediabros.net ********************************************************************** 1. General 1.1 The screen saver fails to install. If the Screen Saver install program (Windows) fails to function correctly from the disk, it is either defective or damaged. The only possibility is to order a new one to Maine Scene. 1.2 Are there any known incompatibilities? Customers have informed us that they have had problems running this scren saver program on systems networked using Novell NetWare (TM). There are no current solutions for this. After Darkª has built-in incompatibilities with our product. Since After Darkª is a DOS resident program, it will try to engage even while a Windows screen saver is running. The best fix is simply to disable After Darkª while you have our screen saver enabled (Windows). 1.3 The Screen Saver seems to foul up long printouts or other batch jobs on the computer. If you observe this problem, disable the Screen Saver before beginning the batch job or long printout. Some software applications and/or hardware platforms have conflicts with screen saver applications. 1.4 The Screen Saver seems to take a long time to recover when I move the mouse to try to begin using my computer again. The image decompression software (Disk) is very memory-intensive. In order to properly return control to the system, that memory must be deallocated. On some older machines, this can be a slower process. While changing from one to another image recovering is not possible. 1.5 The Screen Saver kicks out after only one or two images. Most likely, the mouse has moved imperceptibly. The Screen Saver is particularly sensitive to mouse movements. We recommend that during an initial test run of the Screen Saver you run it with the mouse resting upside down to avoid motion. ********************************************************************** 2. Windows 95 2.1 I get a message that reads "Warning! Memory Low!" scrolling across the screen. Verify that Windows 95 is managing your swap space for you, and that the hard disk drive is not full. Windows 95 uses a dynamic swapfile configuration based on the local hard disk. 2.2 The image appears pixelated and rough-edged. The images in the Screen Saver are designed for an optimum display size of 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768. If you are trying to maximize Windows 95 functionality, set the display at whatever feels most comfortable for your everyday operations. 2.3 Many of the colors in the image are missing. Verify that your display settings are at least 256-color. Look in the CONTROL PANEL, under the DISPLAY icon, to view your display properties window. In the display properties window, click on the SETTINGS tab and check your color palette settings. If your display settings are set at 16-color you will not be able to view the images correctly. ********************************************************************** 3. Windows 98 3.1 I get a message that reads "Warning! Memory Low!" scrolling across the screen. Verify that Windows 98 is managing your swap space for you, and that the hard disk drive is not full.
